Math SEAL Boot Camp
The Math SEAL Boot Camp (MSBC) helps prepare kids aged 9-12 for success in math and life. MSBC features a math teaching methodology which uses culturally targeted music to increase student cognitive involvement, relying less on rote memory skills and more on associative problem solving. MSBC student cadets will learn in an environment which includes team building.
Enrollment period: Now- October 31st (spaces are limited so please apply asap!)
MSBC program dates:
- Wednesday, November 11, 2020 (Veteran’s Day)
- Saturday, November 21, 2020
- Saturday, December 5, 2020
- Saturday, December 19, 2020
Each session is held online from 9:00am – 12:00pm.
Tuition: $25 per cadet
(Tuition is normally $500 per cadet, however a $475 scholarship is provided for cadets participating in this pilot program.)
Math Common Core Standards addressed:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.OA.A.1– Use parentheses, brackets, or braces in numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions with these symbols.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.EE.A.1– Write and evaluate numerical expressions involving whole-number exponents.
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.EE.A.2.C– Evaluate expressions at specific values of their variables. Include expressions that arise from formulas used in real-world problems. Perform arithmetic operations, including those involving whole-number exponents, in the conventional order when there are no parentheses to specify a particular order (Order of Operations). For example, use the formulas V = s3 and A = 6 s2 to find the volume and surface area of a cube with sides of length s = 1/2.
